Dear Dick and Anne,
I know I (Sue) never met Ruthanne, but I read all of the messages sent by friends. I found it very inspiring that she touched so many people’s lives in such a positive and meaningful way. I almost feel like I got to know her through others, and I’m pleased to support the scholarship fund. I hope each individual supported by this will gain some inspiration from the way Ruthanne led her life, and her achievement of such significant personal and professional successes.
Our thoughts are with all of you, as they have been for some time. It sounds like the family was able to enjoy a wonderful time together – the greatest gift imaginable.
All our love and sincere condolences,
Sue and Dave Galt

It was a joy to be around Ruthanne. I did not see her often, but when out paths intersected, I felt enriched by her grace, her warmth, her generosity, and her humor. My prayers are with you - Bob, Nick, & Laura.

Ruthanne Simmons was to me both doctor and friend. I was amazed at the way she dominated a roomful of people just by being there. She had the quiet power of those who know who they are and are comfortable with that knowledge. She radiated a presence that touched everyone. Ruthanne neatly combined human love with medical competence. Both aspects were always there. One never dominated the other. In her hands I always felt I was being treated by the best there was, as I had by her father before her. I was proud to be one of her patients. Her passing leaves an enormous vacuum which, try as we may, we cannot quite fill. I shall always remember Ruthanne for her compassion, for her dedication, and, in the end, for her courage.

I had the privelege of working for Ruthanne at Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston. She cared deeply for her patients and her patients cared for her. She was a wonderful doctor, but also a wonderful person. I thoroughly enjoyed working for her and will miss her very much. Ruthanne, you have shown what true courage is. God Bless your family.

Ruthanne was, even at the age of 10, an extraordinary person, when I first met her. Carl introduced me to the Simmons family in 1969, when we asked her dad to be part of our wedding. The Simmons have been special friends ever since and we've had the joy and priviledge of watching Ruthanne grow into a beautiful, caring, dedicated, successful wife, mother, physician, and friend. She has given us such love and strength throughout her life. When we think of her, we'll see that wonderful smile that catches at your heart and warms up a whole room! With love and hugs from Carl and Carol to Bob, Nick, and Laura and Anne and Dick.
